Climate Cooling adds value to major office refurbishment

 Background

Foundation Developments Ltd (FDL) are leading engineering, groundworks and concrete framework contractors with a turnover in excess of £40 million. Their increasing growth and success created the opportunity for a major refurbishment of their 80,000 sq ft main office in Wallington, Surrey.

The Challenge

FDL chose not to relocate during the refurbishment but to handle the refurbishment as a floor-by-floor task, with employees being accommodated on other floors during the work. New heating and air conditioning was planned as an integral part of the project.

 Climate Cooling meets the challenge

When tendering for the project, Climate Cooling detailed the advantages of installing a complete Fujitsu climate control system to provide both cooled air circulation and heating. This would eliminate the need to replace the aging radiator system currently installed, create more usable floor space and be cheaper to operate. A centralised control system would ensure that all floors could be maintained at a predetermined temperature making it easier to monitor and to budget for running costs as well as maintain an optimum working environment common to all floors.   

Climate Cooling’s recommendations were accepted and the contract worth in excess of £100,000 was awarded.

Given the difficulties of conducting the refurbishment floor-by-floor, close co-operation was required between all the sub-contractors to ensure work was carried out in accordance with a tightly dovetailed time plan. Climate Cooling’s willingness and ability to adapt and accommodate changes to the schedule proved invaluable in ensuring tight deadlines were met.
