Cook Trading are a High Street phenomenon, a ready meals retailer who have taken a simple concept of superior quality and personal service and in just ten years turned one outlet into a chain of 21 COOK shops (with more planned).  The secret of their success is embodied in their mission: to use the best ingredients and cooking techniques to create meals that look and taste homemade.  Today, Cook Trading employ over 200 people, have an extraordinary kitchen in Sittingbourne, and a successful online ordering service that runs in parallel to their successful High Street presence. 

The Challenge

The challenge for COOK has always been to expand the business but remain true to the ideals of small scale production using only high quality ingredients and the talents of skilled chefs.  Privately owned, Cook Trading has a loyal core staff and strong team spirit.  The challenge for their suppliers is to meet, and exceed, the high expectations Cook Trading have set for themselves and which they expect from their suppliers.

Climate Cooling first became involved with Cook Trading in 1999 when it was asked to supply refrigeration services to one of the first COOK shops in Maidenhead, Berkshire.  The shop’s manager was delighted with the service provided by the Climate Cooling team, so when other shops in the chain were looking for support, the Maidenhead manager was eager to recommend Climate Cooling. 

With each new COOK shop that opened, Climate Cooling were invited to provide essential advice and support for the installation of refrigeration, plumbing, ventilation and air-conditioning. No two shops were the same, some, because of previous use, were relatively straightforward, while others required considerable refurbishment. 

The close working relationship that had now developed between Climate Cooling and Cook Trading meant that needs could be analysed quickly based on past experience and actions taken with confidence and trust.

The growing network of shops also created opportunities for Climate Cooling to harmonise refrigeration and air-conditioning installations, making it easier and more cost-effective to carry out servicing and repairs.

To cater for tasks such as routine or emergency maintenance of shop equipment (display units, fixtures and fittings) Cook Trading would traditionally seek an ad hoc solution perhaps working with contractors local to individual shops.  Inevitably this resulted in inconsistencies in quality and service.  The strong working relationship that had developed between Climate Cooling and Cook Trading provided the ideal platform for establishing a better arrangement.  Climate Cooling now provide an extended maintenance service covering not only refrigeration and air-conditioning but also all areas of the Cook Trading business from repair and renewal of shop fittings and plumbing to matters related to maintenance obligations of leased premises.  The result is a one-source solution that is economical and practical for the whole of the business.
